CKKC Class Times, Locations & Fees

Classes for the 2011-2012 season will begin on Wedesday, September 7 in Gull Lake, Monday, September 12 in Maple Creek.

Note: Classes bow in at the start time. Please be on the floor and ready to participate at that time.

Fees

Adults - $30/month
Youth - $25/month
Family - $65/month

CKKC Club Philosophy

Club Philosophy

Cypress Kempo Karate Club is strongly committed to promoting the martial arts as a positive influence on the lives of those who participate.  Therefore:

• We operate entirely as a not-for-profit organization.
• All instructors – at all belt levels – volunteer their time and effort; No one is paid to instruct.
• We offer traditional martial arts training.  Emphasis is on personal development, not competition.
• Club fees are kept as low as possible so that as many people as possible can participate. Club fees cover the following costs:
  
  • Facility rental fees
  • Travel expenses for instructors
  • Club equipment (sparring gear for youth, focus mitts, kicking bags, )
  • Promotions and special events (seminars, festivals, windups, ...)

About Promotions 

• Promotions are solely the responsibility of the black belts overseeing the club.
• Promotions are not based on the time spent in the martial arts or in the club, but on the effort, attitude, skill, techniques, and progress shown.
• Promotions will be done on an on-going basis as students progress.
• There are no fees associated with promotions or the achievement of belt levels.
• Each subsequent belt level takes an increased amount of time, dedication, and effort to achieve.  Students should expect that, as they advance, they will need to work harder and longer to attain the next belt level.
• Promotions are based on many components, including:
  
  • Overall skill level
  • Techniques appropriate to the belt level
  • Attitude toward the martial arts, toward instructors, and toward fellow students
  • Sparring (Yellow to Orange and above)
  • Form/Kata (Yellow to Orange and above)
  • Weapons (Gree to Blue and above)
• In addition, progress is dependent on many factors:
  • Regular attendance at class
  • Attentiveness and good use of class time
  • Amount of practice time put in outside class
  • Effort
  • Natural ability and aptitude
  • Maturity
• The senior instructors (black belts) bring many years of experience to the task of evaluating students.  Please respect and trust their judgement.

CKKC Celebrates 15 Years

On February 7 & 8, 2009, Cypress Kempo Karate Club celebrated its 15th anniversary at the Maple Creek Armouries.  Participants began arriving from 12 noon on.  All participants received a commemorative T-shirt and water bottle.  At 11:45 the group gathered in uniform for a group picture and everyone was on the floor ready to bow in by 1:00 p.m. 

The afternoon began with a two-hour workout and training session, conducted by Grand Master Harding.

After the training session, students had the opportunity to develop their sparring skill and to demonstrate or work on their form.  At 5:00 p.m. training came to a close, the Armouries were transformed from a dojo into a dining hall, and everyone enjoyed an excellent meal, and anniversary cake, andsome socializing.  The evening was capped off with a slideshow of photos documenting our fifteen-year journey.

On Sunday morning, many of the participants returned for another training session, in which Grand Master Harding focused on the concept of range by working through a number of weapons drills and othe exercises.

Thank you to everyone who came out to make the weekend an unqualified success.
